On the Town

Exploring the “city with soul”

From soulful blues to seriously great dining options and a rich cultural scene, it’s no wonder Jackson is called the “city with soul.” We love our hometown, and we hope you do too. So if you’re new to the area or you’re just passing through, here are a few of our personal faves to add to your itinerary.

Must-See Museums

The Mississippi Children’s Museum is full of interactive exhibits and activities, and the MS Museum of Art also is a great spot for the family, with plenty to engage young visitors. Check out the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame to learn about the state’s world class athletes and teams and visit The Civil Rights Museum for a powerful look at Mississippi’s role in shaping history.

Music & Culture

Duling Hall, a former elementary school transformed into a concert venue, serves up interesting architectural details and rich history along with its live music. It’s located in Fondren, Jackson’s revitalized Arts District that serves as the city’s artistic hub. It’s definitely worth a visit!

Where to Stay

The Old Capitol Inn is an iconic spot just steps away from dining, museums and the Capitol building. This boutique hotel offers elegant accommodations and an ultra-convenient location. It’s also a favorite for wedding receptions or large events.
